Dr. Sharon E. Ugalde and Dr. Carlos Abreu Mendoza will be participating as discussants in the book presentation of Gender Battles: Latin American Women, War, and Feminism, by Latin Americanist scholar Dr. Vanesa Miseres (Notre Dame University) at the Teresa Lozano Long Institute of Latin American Studies at the University of Texas. Gender Battles focuses on the overlooked voices of women who wrote about and participated in Latin American and global wars from the nineteenth to mid-twentieth centuries. Moving beyond military narratives centered on men, the book highlights how women—as journalists, memoirists, and activists—shaped the discourse around war and gender.
